What is Urogynecology?
Urogynecology—also known as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery—is a subspecialty of both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Urology. Urogynecologists are physicians who evaluate, diagnose, and treat conditions affecting the muscles and connective tissues of the pelvic organs. Common pelvic floor disorders treated by urogynecologists include urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and pelvic organ prolapse. Many also address rectal issues. However, urogynecologists do not treat cancer or kidney-related problems, such as kidney stones.
